The Best Roasted and Juiciest Chicken Ever!

By

Chicken is not only inexpensive, it is very high in protein and low in fat when the skin is removed. This way of cooking chicken is not only good, it's great! It beats any roasted supermarket chicken hands down. There are absolutely no dry pieces — not even the breast. If you love chicken, you'll go crazy over it.

It has several names: Beer Can Chicken, Tipsy Chicken and Drunken Chicken. Beer cans do not even have to be used - soda and vegetable cans work just as well. Beer does not have to be used either - water, fruit juice, wine and even soda are great moisturizers and flavor enhancers for the chicken.

The stand (pictured above), was purchased at Academy Sporting Goods only because we tend to cook this often and it makes removing the chicken from the pit very easy. If you do not want to invest in the stand, you can cook it on the pit or in the oven without it; however, you need to be careful when removing the chicken--the liquid is VERY HOT!

Ingredients

  • 3-5 pound fresh chicken
  • Choice of seasoning
  • Choice of liquid - beer, wine, fruit juice or water. If you use water, season the water before placing the chicken on top of the can.

Preparation

  • Wash chicken well and season inside and out. Sprinkling paprika on the outside surface of the chicken gives an extra golden crisp to the skin.
  • Spray the can you will be using with cooking spray and place the chicken over it half full of your liquid of choice.
  • If you are cooking it in the oven, place it in a baking dish (to catch the juices) in a preheated 375ºF oven for 1½ hours. Place it on a gas or charcoal grill on low for approximately 1½ hours.

Tip: The chicken is done if you slightly twist one of the legs and it turns easily.

Great hub. My husband loves to cook chicken like this. He has a rather odd name for it though...and its not one you have listed! :) Thanks for the extra tips included.
